Old Trolley in the Rain - San Francisco
Old Trolley in the Rain - San Francisco
Of the thousands of images I've sold in my lifetime, this is number one! By far! I thank the man with the red umbrella who is walking with a cup of coffee. He's earned me some money.
This Italian Streetcar is among many forming San Francisco's 'Rolling Museum' of trolley cars rumbling along Market Street. There is also an open-air railcar from England. Most of the railcars are American. They served many U.S. cities in the 1940s and 50s. Then, Mayor Diane Feinstein spearheaded a program to collect these beautiful machines and bring them to The City.
They were slowly refurbished and painted in the original colors used in each city. Each carries a sign showing the towns they served in. Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., Detroit, St. Louis, New Orleans, and many others are represented.
Digital print is from a photograph I captured in 2011.
